Counseling Intern
Madison Dowdy, Social Work Intern
Hi, I’m Madison Dowdy, a transgender man and LCSW intern providing support for children, adolescents, and families in Arkansas. I specialize in helping individuals and families who feel stuck or overwhelmed, guiding them toward healing and growth. My approach focuses on creating a safe, non-judgmental space where you can be yourself and take meaningful steps toward a fulfilling life.
As your therapist, I will meet you where you are, offering support and encouragement as we work together to overcome challenges. I believe in empowering you to build resilience, discover your strengths, and create balance in your life.
My Personal Story
I’ve always had a passion for helping others, a drive that stems from my role as a supportive older sibling to my 17-year-old sister. Watching her grow and thrive has inspired my commitment to helping teenagers and young adults navigate life’s challenges. As someone who is transgender and has worked extensively with the LGBTQIA+ community, I am deeply dedicated to creating inclusive and affirming spaces where everyone feels seen and valued.
Outside of work, I enjoy playing ultimate frisbee and spending time with my two cats and two dogs, Pumpkin, Loverboy, Oberon, and Neptune, who bring me endless joy.
My Professional Background
I earned my Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Arkansas Fort Smith and am currently pursuing my Master of Social Work at Arkansas State University. My training in Collaborative Problem Solving equips me to support families in managing challenging behaviors and fostering stronger connections.
I worked as a qualified behavioral health professional at Fostering Change, a community reintegration facility for adolescents who could not be placed in foster homes but did not qualify for residential homes. In this role, I helped youth develop independent living skills, supported them through emotional challenges, and bonded with them through meaningful activities. This experience reinforced my passion for working with teenagers and young adults.
My time at Jessie’s House as a case manager for homeless LGBTQIA+ young adults gave me invaluable experience in advocacy and providing holistic support for individuals in need. I now carry these experiences into my role as a family intervention specialist, where I support families and children in building healthier relationships and navigating life’s complexities.
I am committed to helping individuals of all ages find their resilience and potential. Whether you’re feeling stuck or overwhelmed, I’m here to walk with you on your journey toward growth and healing.
