Marsha Williams, LAC

  • Licensed Associate Counselor

Hi, I’m Marsha. I love children, and I love families. People have always told me I’m different and see the world in a unique way. When I was younger, this didn’t really seem like a compliment, but as a therapist, it’s my greatest strength.

I’m passionate about creating experiences where people can feel known and understood. I’ve grown to believe that feeling truly seen is the remedy for most ailments of the heart and mind, and that healing takes place within the context of relationships, as this is also where our pain in life begins. Loneliness is one of the worst feelings in the world, and affirming connection is one of the best. My hope is to offer the affirming connection you and /or your child need. The aim of my clinical practice is to discover resolution to trauma during developmental years, in childhood, to reduce the heaviness of trauma and its long-term effects.

Children are the light of my being and sunshine to my soul. My purpose in this world is to care for children and the people who love them. I am a highly visual person and feel things to a depth that I struggle to describe. I find purpose in using my own pain to help others. Being useful and of service are my top priorities in life, and being a therapist is how I accomplish this. I do not believe in coincidence, and if our paths should cross, it is for a reason.

My Personal Story

My story is difficult to tell. I was born in 1990. I’ve experienced a significant amount of trauma in my life, and in my experience, my clients are relieved when they learn a little bit about my background. I don’t mind challenging people when it’s appropriate, but for me, acceptance is key. I am down to earth and believe authentic existence is crucial to effective relationships. I can only bring someone as far as I have come, and I want to go as far as I can in my own growth for the sake of others.

My Professional Background

I have training in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, an evidence-based treatment for ages 3-17. I am currently in Child-Parent Psychotherapy training, another evidence-based treatment for ages 0-6. I am under supervision by a registered play therapist who helps guide me in my play therapy practice with children. I operate from a trauma informed perspective, relying on polyvagal theory to help my clients recover from trauma. I have been trained in Synergetic Play Therapy, a model that emphasizes the necessity for adults to be mindfully connected to the present to help children recover from trauma. Though my training has taught me how to technically do my job, I have found that my clients are my greatest teachers, and my objective is to never stop learning!
